I graduated from the University of St Andrews in June 2012 with a Masters Degree in Chemistry. I am originally from Edinburgh and I returned to studyi for my Ph.D. in the Campbell group.
My Ph.D. focused on the functionalization of carbon nanotubes by a variety of synthetic routes for application in carbon capture technology. Novel materials were prepared and their adsorption and surface properties analysed through various measurements including the use of a zero length column and BET theory. The project was half based in engineering with all adsorption measurements being carried out in the Carbon Capture Group, led by Prof. Stefano Brandani at Edinburgh University. This allowed a better understanding of how the synthetic procedure impacts on the CO2 adsorption properties.
I attended George Watson's College in Edinburgh for my high school education where I learnt to play tennis, hockey and golf all of which I continue to play throughout the year. Over the various summers of my undergraduate degree I travelled and worked in the United States, Germany and South Africa.
I am now working for Cabot.
